Sertaç Elisabetta Rose Tolunay Amaryllis Castell (born 1996 in Tübingen, Germany as Sertaç Özdemir), known professionally as S.E.R.T.A.C. or S. Elisabetta Castell, is a contemporary visual and performance artist.
S.E.R.T.A.C. works with various media to explore themes of body and gender, clichés, and societal expectations. Their practice investigates post-migrant narratives, while reaching far beyond specific borders to address the complexities of hybrid identities. In their work, they question transformation and the transgression of belonging to multiple cultures simultaneously.
Process-based handwork plays a central role in their practice; by consciously choosing textile production with historically female connotations, they challenge traditional craft hierarchies. Their works also serve as critical commentary on contemporary consumer society.
S. Elisabetta Castell creates fascinating experiential spaces with their work, where textiles, the body, and space poetically merge. Their work—ranging from performances and installations to video and sound projects—invites the viewer to reflect on boundaries, identity, and cultural influences.
By combining personal experiences and mythological motifs with socio-political issues, they demonstrate a deep engagement with materiality and form. With a clear focus on tactile elements and a distinctive narrative style, their practice connects personal stories with universal themes such as belonging and transformation.
